Charlie Dibner, founder and president of the Aurora Financial Group, and one of Maine’s most respected financial advisers, has been active in the state’s financial services industry for nearly three decades. He is an SEC Registered Investment Advisor principal.
Professional Credentials
From 1981 through 1984, he was a registered representative with the Minneapolis-based firm of Investors Diversified Services Inc., now known as Ameriprise Inc. From 1984 through 1989, Charlie expanded his financial knowledge base, experience and diversity by moving his practice to the New York Stock Exchange brokerage firm of Tucker Anthony and R.L. Day Inc. From 1989 through 2002, he continued growth into portfolio management at Advest Inc. (NYSE) as Vice President – Investments, an original member of Advest’s AMPS investment advisory group, a partner in Advest’s elite Portland Partnership and a member of Advest’s prestigious President’s Council. His NASD licensing has included Series 6, 7, 15, 22, 42, 63 and 65. Additionally, he has carried licenses for life, disability, health, long-term care and property/casualty insurances, as well as variable annuities and real estate. In 2002, he added an SEC licensed principal Registered Investment Advisor to the list and merged his burgeoning practice as a principal of the Investment Management and Consulting Group (IMCG.)
Charlie created the Aurora Financial Group, L.L.C in 2005 to better handle his unique and specialized financial-services practice.
Aurora maintains a limited client base with portions of its work being done with retirees/pre-retirees or for the legal community. In the latter vein, he pursues an expertise in personal injury settlement analysis, legal settlements and fiduciary account management. He is a frequent professional lecturer on a wide range of financial planning and investment subjects.
Charlie maintains active roles as a member of the Financial Planning Association – Greater Boston Chapter, the Financial Planning Association – Northern New England Chapter and the Maine Estate Planning Council. He has served as a consultant for governmental agencies in Maine, lectured/taught at the University of Southern Maine, Saint Joseph’s College and innumerable independent schools throughout New England. Additionally, he has regularly provided pro-bono services for innumerable Maine-based charities.
His commitment to expertise in the financial fields is exemplified by his continuing education agenda that averages in excess of 40 credit hours each year.
Personal
Charlie graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, completed all of the academic credits for a master’s degree in art education at the College of New Rochelle and was a member of the University of Pennsylvania Alumni Admissions Committee (Maine).
Trout and salmon fishing haunts his every waking hour. He lives in Scarborough with his wife, Eddy Ann, and Rosie, their Airedale. Eddy is a geriatric social worker with Portland’s Mercy Hospital and a Certified Case Manager. She provides the retirement living and elder care counseling services that are unique to Aurora. These ahead-of-the-curve services have proven to be of unequaled value for Aurora’s clients in respect to their own, their parents’ and their family members’ needs.
The two Dibner daughters are Kenne Ann and Paulie. Paulie lives in New York City, working for Conde Nast as the Managing Editor of Conde Nast Traveler Magazine. Kenne lives in Baltimore, has earned a Ph.D in Education Policy and works as a Research Project Manager at The National Academies of Science.
